In celebration, we are devoting each day in the countdown to our favorite classic Nick shows.
Today: “Doug”

Created by Jim Jinkins, the animated sitcom “Doug” aired from 1991 to 1994 on Nickelodeon and later 1996 to 1999 on Disney. “Doug” premiered on the same day as “The Ren & Stimpy Show” and “Rugrats,” marking the three original Nicktoons.
The show centered around the title character Doug Funnie and his interactions with friends, enemies, school, and family – all written down with chicken scratch in his diary.

Actor Billy West voiced both Douglas Yancy Funnie and Roger M. Klotz for the Nickelodeon show. Not only that, he voiced Stimpy at the same time for “The Ren & Stimpy Show” and later took on the role of Ren as well. With a hugely successful career in voice acting, Billy can now be heard as Philip J. Fry, Dr. Zoidberg, and Prof. Hubert J. Farnsworth in “Futurama” as well as Elmer Fudd on “The Looney Tunes Show.”
Colorful both in their personalities and skin color, the characters of “Doug” helped make it such a big hit. Who can forget Doug’s dog Porkchop, his secret love Patti Mayonnaise, Mosquito “Skeeter” Valentine, his artsy sister Judy, and his arch-enemy Roger Klotz. And what about The Beets!
Not only did the show create a cartoon band that could rival its inspiration – The Beetles – it helped viewers experiment with foods like beets, killer tofu, and liver and onions. And did you ever put a belt around your head and call yourself Quail Man for Halloween? I’m sure you know somebody who did.
How excited are you that “Doug” is returning to television in just two days? Which episodes were your favorites?
