“The ’90s Are All That” Countdown – “The Amanda Show”

July 19, 2011 |  by

At midnight on July 25, TeenNick will premiere its new programming block “The ’90s Are All That.” Airing from 12 to 4 a.m. Tuesday through Saturday, the block will be made up of all your favorite classic Nick shows. Check out the schedule and list of shows here.

In celebration, we’ve decided to devote each day in the countdown to a classic Nick show.

Today: “The Amanda Show”

Created by Nickelodeon legend Dan Schneider (All That, Kenan & Kel, Drake & Josh, iCarly, and Victorious), the sketch comedy show aired from November 6, 1999 to September 21, 2002 and starred Amanda Bynes, Drake Bell, Nancy Sullivan, and Josh Peck (seasons 2 and 3). Where are they now?

Amanda has acted in television and film, with her latest role as Marianne Bryant in “Easy A.” She has been on and off of acting for a while, but we may expect to see more of Amanda’s great acting in the future.

Drake starred in the show “Drake & Josh” and grew a successful career as an actor and musician, most recently starring in the live-action film “A Fairly Odd Movie: Grow Up, Timmy Turner!” and releasing his new EP “A Reminder.” He is currently on tour promoting the new album.

Josh Peck also went on to star in “Drake & Josh” and has acted in many shows and movies to date. He plays the role of Eddie in the “Ice Age” films and is set to act alongside Tim Curry in the upcoming “Bunnicula” film.

“The Amanda Show” was made up of sketches (some with recurring characters, some not) that were introduced by Amanda to an audience. Often, audience members would interact with Amanda, asking her absurd requests. When Amanda was offstage, her number one fan (please!) Penelope Taynt (played by Amanda) who has an Amanda fansite and a tattoo of Amanda’s face on her stomach, comes out to look for her, but never gets a chance to meet her. The AmandaPlease website shown in each show still exists to this day.

The most popular recurring sketches may be Judge Trudy, The Girls Room, and our all-time favorite: Blockblister.

The longer sketches were interspersed with short ones like the commercials for strange products, totally Kyle, and hillbilly moments:

Which sketches were your favorite? Are you excited to see “The Amanda Show” back on TV?

We thought we’d end with a clip featuring Amanda, Drake, and Josh teaching you what to do… when hula girls attack!
