“The ’90s Are All That” Countdown – “Legends Of The Hidden Temple”
In case you missed the spectacular news, starting July 25 at midnight TeenNick will begin airing a new block called “The ’90s Are All That.” Airing from 12 to 4 a.m. Tuesday through Saturday, the block will feature all of your favorite Nickelodeon shows from the ’90s. Check out the list of shows here.
In celebration, we’ve decided to devote each day in the countdown to a classic Nick show.
Today: “Legends of the Hidden Temple.”
Originally airing from September 11, 1993 to 1995 and later rerun on Nick GaS, the show was hosted by the one and only Kirk Fogg and his giant stone buddy Olmec, voiced by Dee Bradley Baker. Where are the two now? Kirk played a District Attorney in the “Veronica Mars” pilot and starred in the 2006 film “Distortion.” Dee Bradley Baker has voiced many characters since Olmec, including Perry the Platypus on “Phineas and Ferb,” Troopers in “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” and various fish in “SpongeBob SquarePants.”
The show placed six teams (one girl and one boy) in absurd competitions (the moat, temple games) and a question round (the steps of knowledge) based on the history of an artifact, eliminating the teams until one was left to enter the Hidden Temple and retrieve the artifact.
Quick, what are the six teams? Red Jaguars, Blue Barracudas, Green Monkeys, Orange Iguanas, Purple Parrots, and Silver Snakes – decked out in colored shirts and matching helmets, kneepads, elbowpads, and mouth guards. Which team do you always root for? Is it just us or did the Purple Parrots have the worst record of them all?
The temple run was probably the greatest three minutes of television ever aired. Imagine the courage needed to face Olmec and tell him that you would go in first. Olmec grunts and the gates drop, and then the music. That music. Music they should play during Olympic races. And was anybody else absolutely terrified of the temple guards?
We don’t know about you, but we would have given anything to compete on this show and try our hand at winning a trip to Space Camp. Did you ever compete on the show or know someone who did?
So, with only days until the ’90s return to television, we’ve decided to share our six favorite temple runs – one from each team. Check them out below.
How excited are you for “The ’90s Are All That” to air on TeenNick?
