Viacom’s MTV Networks have announced a new comedy awards franchise called The Comedy Awards. The first annual Comedy Awards show will take place at New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom on March 26, 2011. The event will then air on April 10th on Comedy Central, Spike TV, TV Land, VH1 and Nick At Nite.
The Comedy Awards are being executive produced by Don Mischer and will recognize the year’s best comedy films, TV shows and digital content. Nominees for the awards will be selected by The Comedy Awards’ board of directors, whose founding members include:
- James Burrows
- Billy Crystal
- Will Ferrell
- Whoopi Goldberg
- Brad Grey
- Seth MacFarlane
- Adam McKay
- Jimmy Miller
- Jay Roach
- Ray Romano
- Rory Rosegarten
- Phil Rosenthal
Many of the winners will be chosen by invitation-only voting comprised of members from the comedy community, while some of the winners will be determined by fans through online voting. We’ll keep you posted!
