We recently got the chance to speak with Nathan Kress from the hit Nickelodeon show “iCarly.” He talked to us about his role as Freddie Benson on the show as well as the upcoming “iCarly” and “Victorious” crossover special.
How did you become an actor on “iCarly”?
“I auditioned for the part of Freddie along with two or three hundred people. I went in for the read and there were a couple of other kids there. I got the impression that I didn’t have the look they [Nickelodeon] were looking for, and I even called my mom telling her they didn’t really like me, but then I got a callback! I found out I was going to be doing a screen test with Miranda [Cosgrove] and Jennette [McCurdy], so I came in to practice for that, and ended up getting the part!”
What is your favorite part of playing Freddie Benson on “iCarly”?
“I think one of my favorite parts is that he gets to have a lot of really cool tech gadgets and props – the laptops and the cameras and everything. He also does a fair amount of stunts.”
In what ways do you relate to Freddie?
“I honestly think as we get further into the show that me and him are becoming more and more alike. I definitely think that we have very similar personalities and interests, but I’m definitely not as much of a tech geek as Freddie.”
Do you have a favorite “iCarly” episode?
“I definitely think that one of my favorite episodes will be what we’re doing now with ‘Victorious,’ because we’ve never done anything like it before!”
What was it like to have actress Jane Lynch on the set for the upcoming episode “iSam’s Mom”?
“That was awesome! She was the first person of the season who we found out was going to be a big guest star and we were really excited. I hadn’t really watched ‘Glee’ beforehand, but I still knew who she was, so we were really excited for it. She was only able to come in for her shoot date and to do a wardrobe test. She was so nice and her personality was perfect for the role!”
What is a typical day like on the set of “iCarly”?
“Normally the way that our week is laid out on Monday we will read the script and rehearse Tuesday, and Wednesday we rehearse and at the end of the day we run through where we act it out, and Thursday and Friday we shoot.”
Can you tell us anything about the “iCarly” “Victorious” crossover special?
“We had the table read today and we start getting rehearsal ready soon. Filming will take place over the next three weeks, but I’m not sure when it is going to air.”
Which actors do you look up to?
“Jack Black as a comedian, but I think on the dramatic side of things I think Denzel Washington because of the way he is able to slip into a character.”
Where do you hope your career goes to in the future?
“Hopefully I’m still acting. I don’t know what I would do if I wasn’t doing this. Hopefully I’ll be doing movies, maybe a TV show, doing something dramatic along the way even though comedy is more my element.”
If you could guest star on any television show, which would it be?
“I would have said ’24′ but it just finished. I’m very depressed about it. Even though I look nothing like Kiefer Sutherland I always hoped I could play his long lost, adopted son!”
What is your favorite song on the radio?
“Probably ‘Just The Way You Are’ by Bruno Mars.”

Actress Jane Lynch is guest starring in an upcoming episode of Nickelodeon’s “iCarly” called “iSam’s Mom.” Here’s what she had to say about her guest starring role:
My daughter’s a huge fan and I’m a huge fan of that show. We watch it together and I think it’s so clever. Hayden and her best friend Miles were both on set for the whole thing. It was great…I got to play someone who’s been existing in people’s minds for a long time, and I hope I did not disappoint.
Will you be tuning in for the episode airing on September 11th?
